These free tools are here to help you make your own decisions, not to make them for you. They show what public records say, and records can be wrong, out of date or missing. A warning sign doesn't mean a company is doing anything wrong, and no warning signs doesn't mean it's safe. Always verify before you dispatch, book or release a load. Terms of Use
What this checks, and what it cannot
- It reads the public FMCSA record for the number: name, USDOT status, authority, insurance on file, out-of-service orders, and the address on file.
- It shows the phone number on file from FMCSA SAFER. If you enter the number you were given, it tells you whether the two match.
- It shows when the company's authority was first granted, from FMCSA's authority history, and flags authority under about 12 months old.
- Recent changes: it flags authority revoked and later reinstated, authority actions in the last 12 months, a USDOT number added in the last 12 months, and a registration (MCS-150) updated in the last 90 days, from FMCSA's authority history and Company Census File. Past phone numbers, emails and addresses are not published, so it cannot show what changed.
- Address: it points out mailbox-style addresses (PMB, UPS Store and similar) and counts how many active USDOT registrations list the same physical address. Shared addresses can be normal, such as sister companies or registered agents, so treat them as something to ask about.
- If you enter the email you were sent, it checks the domain: free email service or not, when the domain was registered, whether it is set up for email, and how it compares with the company name.
- It cannot tell you whether the person emailing or texting you really works for that company. Thieves use real companies' numbers. That is why you call back on the official phone number.
- Nothing you type is saved. The phone number you enter stays in your browser. Only the part of the email after the @ is sent, to look up the domain.
